Financial Requirements

State subsidy for international students
  • All students from SADC countries, will be subsidised by the South African Government at the same level as South African students.
  • Post-graduate and post-diploma students from other foreign countries will be subsidised by the South African Government at the same level as South African students.
  • Children of diplomatic representatives accredited for South Africa, as well as exchange students, will be subsidised by the South African government in the same way as South African students.
  • Students with valid work permits or where the parent(s) of an international students who is still under the age of 23 years of age has(ve) (a) work permit(s) and where proof is given that taxes are being paid in South Africa, will pay the South African fee.
  • All other international students (who are still doing their diploma or B Tech Degree) will NOT be subsidised by the South African Government and are therefore eligible to pay three times the general South African fee.
The SADC countries are:
  • Angola
  • Botswana
  • Democratic Republic of Congo
  • Lesotho
  • Malawi
  • Mauritius
  • Mozambique
  • Namibia
  • Seychelles
  • South Africa
  • Swaziland
  • Tanzania
  • Zambia
  • Zimbabwe
  • Rwanda (although not a SADC member, these students will be subsidised by the South African Government in accordance with the bilateral agreement signed by the two countries)

N.B.

Financial Aid:

financial aid is not available to international students. International students are advised to make enquiries from their Ministers of Education or Scholarship Offices at institutions in their country of origin.

Application fee and closing date:

Applications for study in the first semester must be submitted by 15 August. And for the second semester by 30 April. A non-refundable application fee of R200 must be paid on submission of the form. No late applications will be accepted.

Fees: Full-time undergraduates

Applicants must ensure that they have sufficient money to meet all expenses while living in South Africa.

A breakdown of estimated costs are as follows:
  • The estimated tuition costs differs from subject to subject and therefore only a ruff estimation is given.
  • The following additional costs should be taken into account:

    o Transport to and from South Africa
    o Repatriation costs
    o Study permit application cost.
  • Tuition and residence fees.
  • Tuition fees are charged by course on a semester basis and actual fees paid will depend on courses for which students registered. Please note that the prices listed are applicable to SADC countries, diplomats and postgraduates. All other students should pay thrice the amount.

  • Other Technikon fees:

    - Books and other study material (excluding computers, cameras, etc.) R3 000-00 p.a.
    - Administrative cover charge R100-00 p.a.

    - Accommodation plus meals , approximately R6 000-00 p.a.
    - Medical insurance R1 458-00 p.a. (Single student)/ R2 585-00 p.a. (Student with   dependants)
    - International student association R100-00 p.a.
    - Pocket money R5 000-00 p.a.
    - Fees: Full-time postgraduate
    - Masters R6 000 p.a.
    - Doctorate R7 000 p.a.

    Please add other Technikon fees as applicable to obtain TOTAL ESTIMATED COSTS.
