The Government Engineering College, Idukki (GECI) was established in 2000 under the Directorate of Technical Education Government of Kerala. The college is affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam and is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi. The scenic 25-acre (100,000 m2) campus is located at Kuyilimala, Painavu, the headquarters of the Idukki district. The campus is a two-hour road journey from Thodupuzha or Kothamangalam (co-ordinates: 9°50'52"N 76°56'32"E). The campus is situated near state highway 33 from Thodupuzha to Kattapana. Painavu is 120 km from Cochin and 130 km from Kottayam and is connected by bus to all parts of the state.
